Want Free Money?

In the Educational Technology Endorsement class on Tuesday evening the topic was grant writing. One of the organizations discussed was Donors Choose. Donors Choose is an organization that matches teachers who need classroom technology or other materials with people who want to support education. Right now Horace Mann will match individual donations dollar for dollar – up to $100 per person. There is a limited amount of funding available. Donors must use the match code MORACEMANN12 at checkout. I wanted to see this for myself so I found a fellow classmate with a project that needed funding at Donors Choose. I made my donation with a credit card and typed in the Horace Mann code and instantly Horace Mann donated the same amount. My classmate’s project received double the money because I used the match code.  That is FREE MONEY!

If you have a dream of having more technology in your classroom this is a great place to start. Donors Choose requires teachers to start with small grants and work up to higher dollar grants.

Sign up for an account on Donors Choose TODAY. Think about what you would like to get for your classroom.  Teachers earn points and when they sign up on Donors Choose.  Initially, teachers get three points. Getting a project funded will earn a teacher more points. As teachers earn more points they can request more expensive items like iPads or computers. Don’t worry if you don’t understand everything.
