Presentation Tools

As teachers, we give presentations on a regular basis. PowerPoint can be a great tool to share information and ideas in class presentations. Learning how to use tools like this effectively will help you to not only share the information you are presenting, but to engage the audience.

Choosing your tools:

There are several alternative to PowerPoint. So, if you don't like Microsoft PowerPoint, you can still complete this assignment. Here's a list my favorite presentation tools:
  1. PowerPoint: made by Microsoft, it is the most commonly used presentation tool. New designs and layouts make it a much more powerful tool than it used to be.
  2. Keynote: made by Apple, it is the equivalent of PowerPoint on a Mac. Like most things made by Apple, the graphics and visual elements available in Keynote are very strong and the interface is very intuitive.
  3. Google Presentations: Now that you have explored Google Docs during the week 4 project, you have access to Google Presentations. Similar to PowerPoint, it allows you to upload existing PowerPoint presentations and edit and share them easily.
  4. Prezi: One of the most popular alternatives to PowerPoint. It is completely web-based, so you don't need to store your work on a drive, but you do need internet acces to work on projects or to view them.
  5. Voicethread: This program is uniques because you can create visual slides, then record your voice as a narration over the images. Once it is posted on your Voicethread page, other viewers can add text or audio responses to your slides.
Creating a great presentation takes planning and preparation. Take a few minutes to review the following articles and videos, then create a new presentation.
