Preparing Technology for Summer

Picture
This page outlines what employees should do with computers and other technology equipment before leaving for the summer.

What should I do with my technology over summer break?

Picture
Teacher Computers and iPads
  • Back up your computer and iPad. There are 2 kinds of devices -- those that have crashed and those that will.
  • Your email password will expire over the summer. Reset it now by clicking here, or plan on calling the help desk 801-826-5544 when your email stops working!
  • DO NOT leave your laptop or other device in your car! It poses risks with theft and extreme temperatures!
Document Camera
  • Unplug the document camera. Place all cables, discs, antiglare sheet, remotes and camera in a box or bag. Put the box or bag in a locked cupboard or drawer where it will be safe and not lost or stolen. Store all VGA cables, adapters, sound cables, projector remotes, and plugs in this same cupboard.
Enhanced Audio
  • Unplug enhanced audio mics and remove batteries. Store mics and plugs in the same cupboard with the items listed above.
Projectors
  • Your field tech will clean the filter on projector over the summer.  Put any remotes in the cupboard with your other tech items.
Computer/iPad Labs
  • Clean lab computers – keyboards, mice, headphones, computers, screens (with screen cleaner and soft wipes), counters, etc.
  • Leave lab computers on. IT will work on them remotely during the summer.
  • Do not wrap computers, keyboards, or other hardware in plastic bags.
  • Clean and organize laptop/ iPod/iPad lab carts and machines. Turn devices off and leave the carts unplugged.
  • Clean AlphaSmart/NEO carts and machines. Remove the batteries. Never plug in an AlphSmart/NEO cart.
  • Back up any classroom computers that have important things on them! IT will be upgrading some computers, surplussing some, and re-imaging others (deleting saved items) over the summer.
