Computer Care and Cleaning

Picture
Taking care of equipment is important to every educator.  Knowing how to keep your computer and other issued equipment clean and in working condition is one way to help your classroom run smoothly.

Performance/Care:

  1. Keep your desktop clutter free and your files organized.
  2. Do not download from sites you do not trust.  Sometimes downloaded programs that are not recommended by the District can compromise your computer's performance.
  3. Back up your data.  Make sure your most important documents or other files are saved in another location such as an external hard drive.  Click here to learn more about Apple Time Machine.

Exterior Care:

  1. Keep your screen clean: Spray a silk or microfiber cloth with screen cleaner and clean your screen (Windex is too strong for your computer screen).
  2. Use a disinfectant (no bleach) wipe to clean the other parts of your computer.
  3. Pay attention to the amount of dust your computer accumulates.  Dust it often. If not kept clean it will diminish your computer's performance.
  4. Take care of your cords- they can be very appealing to pets.

Safety and Security:

Having a district-owned laptop comes with responsibility.  Be conscious of the conditions your computer is exposed to.
1. Don't leave your laptop in your car.  It poses a theft-risk and damage-risk  due to extreme temperatures (hot and cold).
2. Don't leave your computer unattended.  You don't want your important equipment or information to be vulnerable to those who are not authorized to use it.
3. Be sure you travel with care while carrying your laptop.  Make sure it is closed and that you are securely gripping it in your arms or securely in a lap top bag.
