How to Cook a Turkey! First Graders Know . . .

12/11/2012

Mrs. Chang's first grade students have definite ideas about how to cook a turkey. She gave them a prompt to get them writing that included things like: Where do you get your turkey? How long do you cook it? How hot do you cook it? What do you eat it with? They wrote down their ideas, then we recorded students reading their writing using Garageband and the teacher laptop. Students used Kidpix to create their artwork and text in the creativity lab. We exported their Kidpix files as a jpeg and dropped them into iPhoto on the teacer laptop. The final project was created in iMovie.  We were able to pick up the picture and audio using Media Browser.  We did a clip adjustment to extend the length of the photo to match the length of the audio. Using the Ken Burns effect allowed us to highlight their names and their artwork as their voices described how to cook a turkey. iLife music was used in the back ground to spice up their recipes. Voila, gourmet and fun filled recipes for Thanksgiving!  Colleen Bliss
