Canvas is a learning management system that allows teachers to set up a course online. It can be used stand alone, or with the existing classroom course, in a blended learning model.  Teachers can give assignments, set up discussion boards, and make announcements within their coures. Notifications are given to the students via Facebook®, Twitter™, and instant messaging all without knowing the students personal information or forming associations on those sites. Parents can be enrolled as an observer in the course as well. The use of modern tools, such as Google Docs, MS Word, and video recording are incorporated into the Canvas system. Using the SpeedGrader a teacher can leave a comment for a student as they grade the paper, as well as leaving a personal video message. Students can be randomly sorted into groups allowing for collaboration as well.  Check out the Canyons Canvas Standards to get started today!
