iOS Management and Deployment in CSD
iPad, iPod, iPhone - Setting Up and Purchasing Apps
These guidelines and standards apply to iPads, iPods, and iPhones purchased with district funds. As iOS devices (iPad, iPodTouch, iPhone) are coming into our schools and offices, there needs to be a few uniform ways of setting them up. Apple has also instituted a new purchasing program for applications for these devices in education. Beginning April 15th, all purchases for apps for these devices will need to be purchased using the ASVPP (App Store Volume Purchasing Program). In Canyons School District this program will be administered through Purchasing and IT.
Setting up of iPads
As your building or office recieves iOS devices, please contact your building Educational Technology Specialist (Elementary, Secondary). They are/will be trained for setting up these devices to district standard. If devices are going to be running the same apps, they should be set up under 1 account in iTunes. This account will be created using a special email account that is being set up for all of the schools. This would be for groups of devices, like classroom sets, intervention uses, etc.

Purchasing Apps for Your Devices.
When you are ready to purchase apps for your iOS devices, let your EdTech Specialist know what apps you want to purchase. They will be serving as the Program Facilitators (PF) for the ASVPP in your building. (For departments you will need to designate a PF for your department, please have the selected person contact Kelly Dumont). They will contact the secretary who will create a requisition for an ASVPP voucher for your entity in the amount requested ( Vouchers can be purchased for the following amounts $100, $500, $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000). This requisition needs to go to Purchasing. It will go through the approval process.
Here are the voucher part numbers:

When approved, the vouchers will be sent to the school. Make sure to give the voucher to the authorized PF for your building. Only that PF will be able to redeem the voucher for applications.
When the voucher does arrive, the PF will redeem the voucher for the desired apps. The PF will then be sent a spreadsheet with codes to be used to download the apps. The PF will then download the app onto the computer with the designated iTunes account. As many devices as you have purchased that app for may then be synched to that account.

Deployments in Canyons School District
A number of CSD schools have begun adoption of iOS devices for instructional purposes. Below are schools involved in initial pilot projects. At right, you may also download a copy of our findings.
